Glossary

At The Center for Minimally Invasive Spinal and Neurosurgery, we treat the following conditions:

CERVICAL

Congenital and developmental disorders
Congenital Cranio-vertebral anomalies – Platybasia, Cranial settling, Klippel-Feil, Os-odontoideum, Chiari malformation with and without syringomyelia, Neurenteric cysts

Degenerative disorders – Cervical disc herniation / Spondylosis with osteophyte formation, OPLL – Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (spinal cord and nerve root compression) –Kyphotic and Swan neck deformity

Traumatic – Following accidents with spinal cord injury. Fracture and dislocations of the spine with spinal cord and nerve root compression. Surgery for the reduction and stabilization of such instabilities. Odontoid fractures and Atlanto-axial instability

Neoplastic

Intradural extramedullary tumors: Schwannomas, Neurofibromas, Meningiomas

Spinal cord tumors – (Intramedullary tumors) Ependymomas and Astrocytomas, Lipomas, Cavernomas, Hemangiomas

Bony tumors

1. Benign (Osteoid osteoma, Osteoblastoma, Osteochondroma, Giant cell tumors, Eosinophilic granulomas, Chordomas etc.

2. Malignant tumors – Metastatic tumors (Breast, Prostate, Lung, Kidney, thyroid), Osteosarcoma, Chodrosarcoma, Myeloma etc.

Inflammatory : Rheumatoid arthritis with Cranio-cervical settling and Atlanto – Axial instability,
Bacterial Infections in the spine with epidural abscess formation and spinal cord compression,

Thoracic

Congenital: Syringomyelia, Spinal cord herniation, Arachnoid cyst

Degenerative: Thoracic disc herniation, Ossification of the ligaments with spinal cord compression, Degenerative deformities

Traumatic Following accidents with spinal cord injury. Fracture and dislocations of the spine with spinal cord and nerve root compression. Osteoporotic frctures (Kyphoplasty). Surgery for the reduction and stabilization of such instabilities.

Neoplastic
